A lover of Satchmo (Louis Armstrong) and Nat King Cole since childhood, it was the swingin’ tunes that drew Earanee to her first Lindy Hop class in her hometown of Adelaide, Australia. Bitten by the jitterbug, Earanee soon began following her love of swing dance around the globe, and has since taught and competed across Australia, Europe and the US.
Sander Costermans (Solo Jazz Tuesday in Saint-Gilles)
Ever since Sander was a teenager, he was very interested in jazz and the style from the swing era. He started dancing because he just couldn’t sit still when listening to music. He’s part of the Jazz Maniacs and the Old Soulz performance crews in Brussels, which have given him the opportunity to perform at events in the country and abroad. The authentic style is what he tries to recreate, but he likes to put in his own character as well. His goal in teaching people lindy hop, is to enable them to dance comfortably with anyone they happen to meet, and enjoy themselves when they go out dancing.
Lies Vogeler (Shag)
With a love for social dancing and a passion for self-development to become a better dancer Lies hopes to inspire people to learn and enjoy everyday dancing as much as she does. No matter if it is Lindy, Balboa, or Collegiate Shag you will always find her with a big smile on a social floor moving in old and new rhythms of swing music. This energy is what made her want to teach and share the excitement in the first place. The social aspect in Lindy Hop is very important to her as she feels privileged to have met so many great and talented people at various events at home and abroad.
Anton Potocnik (Shag)
Since early days Anton (originally from Slovenija) was interested in the art of body movement. He especially enjoyed dancing where a combination of movement, music and interaction with a partner offered him the ultimate challenge. After many years of dancing salsa, Anton moved to Zurich where he met swing dancers and immediately fell in love with Lindy hop. Never before he realized how much fun dancing can be. His latest obsession is Collegiate Shag where no song is fast enough for him. Fast kicks, mindless thinking and energetic music is what keeps him on a dance floor until the very last song. Anton draws his inspiration from Steven and Chanzie and a number of other incredible international teachers.
Students in this level should have been taking regular solo jazz classes since at least September 2018. Students should have a strong grasp of fundamental jazz repertoire, be comfortable learning choreographies without too much assistance, and have practise experimenting with improvisation and their own styling.
This is a beginner level in Solo Jazz Charleston.
Building on strong foundation of rhythm and classic vernacular repertoire, these classes are designed to develop students’ ability to create and improvise in solo jazz, while also focusing on learning and building choreographies.
This class will focus on furthering students’ jazz repertoire through both learning and creating choreographies, and developing improvisation skills. Students wishing to join this class should have a basic grasp of fundamental jazz repertoire (including steps like tacky annie, shorty george, boogie back, boogie forward, charleston, etc), and some experience experimenting with improvisation and putting different steps together on their own.
