Elise is the perfect example of how a delirious student becomes a teacher in Lindy Hop. She discovered Lindy Hop a few years before joining the Apollo Swing team in 2012. As an art historian, she has always been passionate about early 20th century art and design, as well as music, fashion, movies and theatre of that era. In order to evolve and discover new challenges, Elise has been taking classes at prestigious international workshops in different dance techniques. She is steadily evolving within a wide range of dances such as Solo Jazz, Charleston, Balboa, etc. and seeks inspiration from the mainstream professional dancers. Enthusiasm and passion are keywords in Elise’s curriculum.
Since early in his childhood, Didier has been passionate about fashion, cars and of course dances from the 40’s and 50’s. His passion lead him to collect old records and to dress in vintage clothes. He discovered Lindy Hop in the late 90s and has been trained by big names the like of ’The Rhythm Hot Shots’ (Sweden), Steven Mitchell (USA), Frankie Manning (USA), etc. He trained abroad in major top festivals as well as in private training sessions. He introduced Lindy Hop in Belgium together with Geneviève, resulting in the creation of Apollo Swing dance school. Didier has been spreading his cheery disposition and sharing his talent for over twenty years in Lindy Hop classes in Belgium and on the dance floor. He remains as passionate as at the start of his career, is always on the lookout for novelties in this field and is constantly inspired by ‘The Ninjammerz’ (FR & USA) who are well-known for their unique dance style.
Aïsha was instantly taken by the swinging ‘50 and ’60 in all their aspects: music, fashion, furniture. She started collecting LP’s of Billie Holiday, Chuck Berry, Jimmie Lunceford, Miles Davis and other such jazzy icons. She started sewing her own ’50 style clothes from very early on. Lindy Hop started being on her radar and after some hesitation she finally registered in September 2016. Intensive parties and workshops convinced her that her enthusiasm for Lindy Hop had to be further conveyed. If it makes her happy, it will make everyone else happy.
Dean Started dancing Lindy Hop in 2014 and has practised with Apollo Swing in Leuven and Hasselt. What began as a hobby turned into a passion. He’s experienced in teaching people how to move their body in function of sports. Combined with his enthusiasm and love for music , he’ll teach anyone how to do the Lindy Hop!
Astrid Akay is part of the brussels performance group Jazz Maniacs. Her central interest in Jazz dance is the old school lindy hop and the freedom of improvisation. Her professional background as an actress and theatre directress gives her another perspective on that particular topic. Sharing her love of the dance through classes is a passion as well.
Ever since Sander was a teenager, he was very interested in jazz and the style from the swing era. He started dancing because he just couldn’t sit still when listening to music. He’s part of the Jazz Maniacs and the Old Soulz performance crews in Brussels, which have given him the opportunity to perform at events in the country and abroad. The authentic style is what he tries to recreate, but he likes to put in his own character as well. His goal in teaching people lindy hop, is to enable them to dance comfortably with anyone they happen to meet, and enjoy themselves when they go out dancing.
Jérôme De Paepe
Boris began dancing Lindy Hop as an Apollo student in 2014. What started out as a hobby quickly became the center of his social live and his source of positive energy. Today, he frequently participates in international festivals to push his dancing further and he is eager to pass on his knowledge and experience.
Stijn De Boeck
Syncopated rythm is wat gets this guy moving. As a kid, his parents encouraged him to study music, play cello and sing in a choir. In his teens he discovered jazz, funk and electronic music. He became part of a DJ collective, four friends united by their love for the music and passion for the rythm. It are the same old things that drew him to Lindy Hop in 2015. Stijn quickly became mesmerised by this wonderful dance, its rich history and welcoming community. Today you can find him on the dancefloor as well as behind the decks known as Dr. Swingenstein.
From very early on Juliette has been in contact with the performing arts.
At age 4, she started to learn circus at Bing Bang Circus, before specializing in arial apparatus and later on, she joined the Conservatory of Rennes in the music department.
At age 14 the circus classes had to give way for dance classes, specifically Tap Dance, Ballet and Modern Jazz. Through tap dance Juliette discovered, and immediately fell in love with lindy hop during a festival in Oslo. Ever since then she spends her disposable time and energy either on the dance floor, training or going to festivals and competitions or as an organizer of dance events. Her background in Tap Dance and her inspiration by the Old Timers make her style really old school and rhythmical.
Céline has been passionate with dance since she was a little girl. She first practiced classical dance for many years, then sportive dance, which she still practices today. Her desire to discover swing dances came from her great grandmother, dancer in the 30’s. Five years ago, she discovered with excitement that Charleston & Lindy Hop classes were been given in Liège. She didn’t stop swing dancing since then.
