Helena started dancing at a very early age; she began with Ballet in kindergarten and acquired a real taste for dancing. She took dance courses in different styles. After winning a title in the Belgian Championship (funk/hip-hop) at age fifteen, Helena started teaching dance classes and designing choreography. For ten years she taught in different disciplines (jazz dance, street dance, oriental dance, dance theatre) and always managed to creatively incorporate influences from flamenco, tap dance, body drumming, Bollywood, African dance, capoeira, break dance, tango and contemporary dance.
After leaving dance for a couple of years, Lindy Hop ignited her fire for dancing again. Not only the cheerful way of dancing, but also the complete setting, style and atmosphere from the days of yore make her heart pound.
When Sander reached sixteen, his interests veered towards jazz/swing as well as the thirties and forties styles. After much hesitation, he finally registered for Lindy Hop classes in Leuven in September 2015 and his life underwent a complete transformation. He has never learned any other dance, but Lindy Hop has taken the best of him. Dancing at least five times a week in Brussels, Antwerp, Leuven, Hasselt and anywhere else in-between. Dancing became a passion that he wouldn’t miss for anything. He is looking forward to share his passion with new and somewhat more accomplished dancers! Where he might lack in experience he certainly makes up in enthusiasm!
You’ve mastered the basic charleston, triple steps, groove walks, kick steps on basic patterns like send-out, tuck-turn, change places, circle, and know the difference between dancing in a 6 and an 8 count.
During this course we will expand your vocabulary with new moves, teach several variations on moves you already know, help you improve the basics, such as the bounce, and work on your technique and connection.
You have understood the fundamentals and are well able to execute them.
You don’t need to be an expert at these fundamentals, but you should be familiar with them.
This course will challenge you with more complex patterns: by mixing the 6 and 8 counts and transforming them into 10, 12, … count variations of a familiar move.
We will dive deeper on technical aspects behind the dance and answer questions like frame, stretch, finding your center, controlling the connection between you and your partner, and the technique behind the moves….
This level will unlock the tools to start improvising with your partner and the rhythm of the music.
This level is meant for those who are absolutely new to Lindy Hop and are about to learn their first steps. No previous dance experience is required.
