Elise is the perfect example of how a delirious student becomes a teacher in Lindy Hop. She discovered Lindy Hop a few years before joining the Apollo Swing team in 2012. As an art historian, she has always been passionate about early 20th century art and design, as well as music, fashion, movies and theatre of that era. In order to evolve and discover new challenges, Elise has been taking classes at prestigious international workshops in different dance techniques. She is steadily evolving within a wide range of dances such as Solo Jazz, Charleston, Balboa, etc. and seeks inspiration from the mainstream professional dancers. Enthusiasm and passion are keywords in Elise’s curriculum.
Since early in his childhood, Didier has been passionate about fashion, cars and of course dances from the 40’s and 50’s. His passion lead him to collect old records and to dress in vintage clothes. He discovered Lindy Hop in the late 90s and has been trained by big names the like of ’The Rhythm Hot Shots’ (Sweden), Steven Mitchell (USA), Frankie Manning (USA), etc. He trained abroad in major top festivals as well as in private training sessions. He introduced Lindy Hop in Belgium together with Geneviève, resulting in the creation of Apollo Swing dance school. Didier has been spreading his cheery disposition and sharing his talent for over twenty years in Lindy Hop classes in Belgium and on the dance floor. He remains as passionate as at the start of his career, is always on the lookout for novelties in this field and is constantly inspired by ‘The Ninjammerz’ (FR & USA) who are well-known for their unique dance style.
Céline has been passionate with dance since she was a little girl. She first practiced classical dance for many years, then sportive dance, which she still practices today. Her desire to discover swing dances came from her great grandmother, dancer in the 30’s. Five years ago, she discovered with excitement that Charleston & Lindy Hop classes were been given in Liège. She didn’t stop swing dancing since then.
From very early on Juliette has been in contact with the performing arts.
At age 4, she started to learn circus at Bing Bang Circus, before specializing in arial apparatus and later on, she joined the Conservatory of Rennes in the music department.
At age 14 the circus classes had to give way for dance classes, specifically Tap Dance, Ballet and Modern Jazz. Through tap dance Juliette discovered, and immediately fell in love with lindy hop during a festival in Oslo. Ever since then she spends her disposable time and energy either on the dance floor, training or going to festivals and competitions or as an organizer of dance events. Her background in Tap Dance and her inspiration by the Old Timers make her style really old school and rhythmical.
You’ve mastered the basic charleston, triple steps, groove walks, kick steps on basic patterns like send-out, tuck-turn, change places, circle, and know the difference between dancing in a 6 and an 8 count.
During this course we will expand your vocabulary with new moves, teach several variations on moves you already know, help you improve the basics, such as the bounce, and work on your technique and connection.
This level will focus on making you a social dancer capable of dancing with anyone at a party.
This level is meant for those who are absolutely new to Lindy Hop and are about to learn their first steps. No previous dance experience is required.
You learn the basic Charleston, triple steps, groove walk, kick steps with basic patterns like the send out, tuck turn, change place, bring back, circle and you will learn how to lead or follow the different patterns.
The main focus of this level is to become able to dance Lindy Hop at social dances and have fun!
You dance on a regular basis at swing parties, you feel comfortable on the dancefloor. You’ve mastered the fundamentals of the dance and you are able to execute them with ease. You can comfortably perform a swing-out, mix 6 and 8 count moves, and you have a broad vocabulary of variations and sometimes create your own.
During this course we will expand on technique and the concepts of the fundamentals like the stretch, the counter-balance, frame,…
We will work on a relaxed and crystal clear connection, but also look at more difficult moves with creative footwork, fun variations and cool combinations. This level will challenge you on rhythm and technique.
You can join this level for several sessions until you are recommended by your teacher to proceed to the Chick level.
But don’t worry, there is plenty to learn.
Solo jazz is an integral part of the lindy hop. Understanding how to move your body to the music when you’re not dancing as a couple, will elevate your couple dancing as well. In these classes we’ll go over some of the old routines and focus on personal style. This level is suitable for beginners and intermediate level.
