Astrid Akay is part of the brussels performance group Jazz Maniacs. Her central interest in Jazz dance is the old school lindy hop and the freedom of improvisation. Her professional background as an actress and theatre directress gives her another perspective on that particular topic. Sharing her love of the dance through classes is a passion as well.
Ever since Sander was a teenager, he was very interested in jazz and the style from the swing era. He started dancing because he just couldn’t sit still when listening to music. He’s part of the Jazz Maniacs and the Old Soulz performance crews in Brussels, which have given him the opportunity to perform at events in the country and abroad. The authentic style is what he tries to recreate, but he likes to put in his own character as well. His goal in teaching people lindy hop, is to enable them to dance comfortably with anyone they happen to meet, and enjoy themselves when they go out dancing.
We believe that the more your work on your dancing, the more fun you can have on the dance floor!
Together we’re gonna try to capture the core of Lindy hop (with a focus on musicality) by digging into the original vintage clips, trying to reproduce certain sequences and then implementing our own styling into it.
The less experienced dancers will learn a lot of new sequences and get comfortable dancing them, whilst the more experienced will spend a lot of time working on their styling (which might be even more challenging).
Since this is what we truly love in dancing, we will be very encline to share our passion with enthousiasme and ambition !
You’ve mastered the basic charleston, triple steps, groove walks, kick steps on basic patterns like send-out, tuck-turn, change places, circle, and know the difference between dancing in a 6 and an 8 count.
During this course we will expand your vocabulary with new moves, teach several variations on moves you already know, help you improve the basics, such as the bounce, and work on your technique and connection.
This level will focus on making you a social dancer capable of dancing with anyone at a party.
