Elise is the perfect example of how a delirious student becomes a teacher in Lindy Hop. She discovered Lindy Hop a few years before joining the Apollo Swing team in 2012. As an art historian, she has always been passionate about early 20th century art and design, as well as music, fashion, movies and theatre of that era. In order to evolve and discover new challenges, Elise has been taking classes at prestigious international workshops in different dance techniques. She is steadily evolving within a wide range of dances such as Solo Jazz, Charleston, Balboa, etc. and seeks inspiration from the mainstream professional dancers. Enthusiasm and passion are keywords in Elise’s curriculum.
When Sander reached sixteen, his interests veered towards jazz/swing as well as the thirties and forties styles. After much hesitation, he finally registered for Lindy Hop classes in Leuven in September 2015 and his life underwent a complete transformation. He has never learned any other dance, but Lindy Hop has taken the best of him. Dancing at least five times a week in Brussels, Antwerp, Leuven, Hasselt and anywhere else in-between. Dancing became a passion that he wouldn’t miss for anything. He is looking forward to share his passion with new and somewhat more accomplished dancers! Where he might lack in experience he certainly makes up in enthusiasm!
This level is meant for those who are absolutely new to Lindy Hop and are about to learn their first steps. No previous dance experience is required.
You learn the basic Charleston, triple steps, groove walk, kick steps with basic patterns like the send out, tuck turn, change place, bring back, circle and you will learn how to lead or follow the different patterns.
The main focus of this level is to become able to dance Lindy Hop at social dances and have fun!
You dance on a regular basis at swing parties, you feel comfortable on the dancefloor. You’ve mastered the fundamentals of the dance and you are able to execute them with ease. You can comfortably perform a swing-out, mix 6 and 8 count moves, and you have a broad vocabulary of variations and sometimes create your own.
During this course we will expand on technique and the concepts of the fundamentals like the stretch, the counter-balance, frame,…
We will work on a relaxed and crystal clear connection, but also look at more difficult moves with creative footwork, fun variations and cool combinations. This level will challenge you on rhythm and technique.
You can join this level for several sessions until you are recommended by your teacher to proceed to the Chick level.
But don’t worry, there is plenty to learn.
You’ve mastered the basic charleston, triple steps, groove walks, kick steps on basic patterns like send-out, tuck-turn, change places, circle, and know the difference between dancing in a 6 and an 8 count.
During this course we will expand your vocabulary with new moves, teach several variations on moves you already know, help you improve the basics, such as the bounce, and work on your technique and connection.
This level will focus on making you a social dancer capable of dancing with anyone at a party.
